Intended for the kayaker that has previous paddling experience or has completed our introductory course, this low enrollment cap course focuses on improving and perfecting paddling technique and introduces the participants to sprint racing kayaks.
Setting: outside, please dress appropriately for weather and also bring a bathing suit, sunscreen, water.
Effort level: moderate, with few instances of relatively high intensity throughout the course.
Duration: 2-3 hours
- Contrasting various types of sprint Kayaks, trimming, tuning, proper positioning in the boat, equipment care.
- entering/exiting sprint racing kayaks from the dock and from the shore.
- feathering and bracing.
- efficient forward stroke: introduce and practice stroke stages, block concept, leg movement, putting it all together.
Following the successful completion of the course, participants will be able to do paddle safely and efficiently in a stable sprint kayak along lake shores in fair weather.
Participants completing this course will be ready to join our "masters" program to further develop their paddling technique, try crew boats and ?why not? prepare to compete in flatwater kayak races regionally and nationally under the ORCC umbrella.
