Introduction to Kayaking

 

Intended for the novice kayaker who wants to learn the basic paddling skills.

Setting: outside, please dress appropriately for weather and also bring water shoes, a bathing suite, sunscreen, water.

Effort level: moderate, with few instances of relatively high intensity throughout the course.

Duration: approximately 2 hours

 

Course outline:

  Equipment selection

  Hazards and Safety

  Adjustments and trim

  Enter & Exit a kayak from dock and from shore

  Paddling skills: basic strokes and maneuvers

  Managing wind and waves (basics)

All necessary equipment is provided by ORCC.

Please note our cancellation policy:

- 2 weeks prior to the start of the program will receive a full refund less a $15 non-refundable administration fee.

- less than 2 weeks to the start of the program will be issued a credit only. However, you can always reschedule for another session or receive full credit towards other programs.
