FUNdamentals Day Camp- (Ages 8-14): This is a 1 week camp for new paddlers but campers can sign up for multiple weeks as the program changes week to week. Campers will enjoy spending their days in and on the water learning the skills to paddle in sprint canoe, sprint kayak, war canoe and dragon boat in a FUN environment. All campers get to finish their week with a FUN regatta at Ottawa River Canoe Club Friday afternoons. Parents are encouraged to come out Friday afternoon to watch their children demonstrate their new skills and maybe even teach their parents a thing or two. Campers will also have the option to compete in a divisional regatta Saturday with the rest of the club (not mandatory).
Learn to Train Program (Ages 8-14): This is a 1 week camp for paddlers who have some sprint paddling experience. Paddlers will build upon the skills they learned from previous summers or previous weeks of paddling. There will be a FUN regatta at Ottawa River every Friday afternoon, but paddlers are also expected to race at the divisional regatta at the end of their week. Athletes may sign up for multiple weeks and work towards competing at Divisional and Provincial championships if that is their goal. The focus is on team spirit as the campers represent the ORCC at regional regattas organized by the Eastern Ontario Division of Canoe Kayak Canada.
All campers will undergo a swim assessment on their first day of camp that includes swimming 50 meters and treading water. This assessment allows our counsellors to determine each campers comfort level in and around the water. No camper will be turned away due to swim ability as ALL campers, regardless of swim ability, are required to wear a Government of Canada Approved Personal Flotation Device while on or near the water.
Unfortunately due to COVID-19 restrictions, bussing services will not be offered this summer.
