Intro to Competition Camp- June 28-July 17

Intro to Competition camp is a great complement to the Canoe Kids or Youth Paddling Camps, as paddlers, aged 11 to 14 years, build on their paddling skills and have the opportunity to compete at a regional regatta.  Campers will enjoy spending their days in and on the water learning paddling skills in sprint canoe, sprint kayak, war canoe and dragon boat in a fun environment.  The focus is always on fun and team building.

This is a 3 week camp that runs from June 28-July 16.  On July 17th, to finish the camp there will be a regatta at one of the Ottawa area Canoe Club in our division (Rideau or Carleton Place).  Participants who would like to continue for the remainder of the summer can join our full summer competitive program and compete at the Divisional and Provincial Championships. The program is designed to be a progressive summer program that nurtures our athletes to develop their paddling and racing skills.

Swim Competency

All campers will undergo a swim assessment on their first day of camp that includes swimming 50 meters and treading water. This assessment allows our counsellors to determine each campers comfort level in and around the water.  No camper will be turned away due to swim ability as ALL campers, regardless of swim ability, are required to wear a Government of Canada Approved Personal Flotation Device while on or near the water.

Unfortunately due to COVID-19 restrictions, bussing services will not be offered this summer.

Please be aware of the Ottawa River Canoe Club Cancellation Policy:
  • Camp registration cancellations which are received two weeks prior to the start of the camp will receive a refund less the $50 non-refundable administration fee.
  • No refunds are available within two weeks of the start of camp or once the camp has started; a prorated credit may be applied.
  • In the case of injury or illness, a medical certificate must be provided, and refunds will only be offered as a prorated credit.
