Summer Day Camps

Canoe Kids (8-11 years) and Junior Canoe Kids (6-7 years)

Does your child love being on the water and would like to learn how to paddle a canoe or kayak?

Canoe Kids program provides a fun camp environment for children to learn fundamental canoe and kayak skills and to encourage a lifelong interest in paddling.

The Canoe Kids program is designed to provide children an opportunity to paddle and socialize with their friends in a fun team environment. Campers develop water safety awareness and paddling skills while increasing their confidence on the water. The camping day includes on-land active games, crafts, and discovery time. The focus is on summer fun!

Safety is important to our club.

Covid policy:  Please click here for the full ORRC Summer Camps COVID Policy. This year, due to COVID, we highly recommend all participants bring THEIR OWN Government of Canada approved PFD.  PFD can be purchased at many locations across the city such as Walmart, Canadian Tire or any outdoor adventure store for torun $25.  If you do not have your own PFD, the club will provide a sanitized one for you.

Water Safety:  All campers will undergo a swim assessment on their first day of camp that includes swimming 50 meters and treading water. This assessment allows our counsellors to determine each campers comfort level in and around the water.  No camper will be turned away due to swim ability as ALL campers, regardless of swim ability, are required to wear a Government of Canada Approved Personal Flotation Device while on or near the water.

Realizing that our participants have varying swimming abilities, the ORCC recommends that all paddlers strive to attain a progressive swim competency following the Red Cross Swim Kids program.

Bus Service:

Unfortunately, this year due to COVID all bus service has been cancelled.  Campers will have to be dropped off at the camp 1610 Sixth Line Rd. Kanata, ON.

Hours of Operation:

Regular camp hours are from 8:30am-3:30pm, campers can be droped-off and picked-up, between 8 & 8:30am and 3:30-4 pm, Monday through Friday.
ORCC also provides optional late pick-up supervision by camp counselors. For a fee of $35 per camper per week, campers can be picked up by 5:00 pm

What campers need to bring to camp:

  • Backpack
  • Change of clothes
  • Bathing suit & towel
  • Running shoes & water shoes that will get wet
  • Hat, sunscreen & insect repellent
  • Lunch, snacks & water bottles (Friday lunch provided)

Children must be independent in their ability to apply sunscreen / insect repellent, change clothes and washroom personal hygiene. There are regular time-outs to hydrate and apply sunscreen, but children need to be able to apply their own.
 2020 Canoe Kids Camp Fees
  • $299 per child per weekly session
  • $240 per child per short week (June29-3 and August 4-7)

ORCC Credit Card Policy:

ORCC offers a variety of payment methods such as cheque, etransfer and credit card.   However, credit card transactions cost the club thousands of dollars every year.  In an effort to keep program pricing reasonable, we ask those participants who wish to pay by credit card to ensure you also pay the credit card convenience fee to help offset the costs to the club.  No convenience fee is charged for etransfers or cheque.
