Are you looking for a challenge? If yes, then the Intro to Competition Camp programs are for you!
Intro to Competition camp is a great complement to the Canoe Kids or Youth Paddling Camps, as paddlers, aged 11 to 14 years, build on their paddling skills and have the opportunity to compete at a regional regatta. Campers will enjoy spending their days in and on the water learning paddling skills in sprint canoe, sprint kayak, war canoe and dragon boat in a fun environment. The focus is always on fun and team building.
This is a 3 week camp that runs from June 28-July 16th. On Saturday, July 17th your camp will finish with a regatta at one of the canoe clubs in the Ottawa area (Rideau or Carleton Place). Participants who would like to continue for the remainder of the summer can join our full summer junior competitive program and compete at the Divisional and Provincial Championships. The program is designed to be a progressive summer program that nurtures our athletes to develop their paddling and racing skills.
Safety is important to our club.
Covid policy: Please click here for the full ORRC Summer Camps COVID Policy. This year, due to COVID, we highly recommend all participants bring THEIR OWN Government of Canada approved PFD. PFD can be purchased at many locations across the city such as Walmart, Canadian Tire or any outdoor adventure store for torun $25. If you do not have your own PFD, the club will provide a sanitized one for you.
If camps are unable to run because of COVID restrictions, participants will receive a full reimbursement minus any credit card fees.
Water Safety: All campers will undergo a swim assessment on their first day of camp that includes swimming 50 meters and treading water. This assessment allows our counselors to determine each campers comfort level in and around the water. No camper will be turned away due to swim ability as ALL campers, regardless of swim ability, are required to wear a Government of Canada Approved Personal Flotation Device while on or near the water. Realizing that our participants have varying swimming abilities, the ORCC recommends that all paddlers strive to attain a progressive swim competency following the Red Cross Swim Kids program.
Unfortunately, due to COVID all bussing this year has been cancelled. Participants will need to be dropped off at the camp.
Hours of Operation:
Regular camp hours, for drop-off and pick-up, are 8:30-9am to 4-4:30pm, Monday through Friday.
There is a regatta scheduled for July 17th in the Ottawa area (exact location TBD). Regattas may change depending on COVID-19 restrictions.
ORCC Credit Card Policy:
ORCC offers a variety of payment methods such as cheque, etransfer and credit card. However, credit card transactions cost the club thousands of dollars every year. In an effort to keep program pricing reasonable, we ask those participants who wish to pay by credit card to ensure you also pay the credit card convenience fee to help offset the costs to the club. No convenience fee is charged for etransfers or cheque.
